Project Methodology
In view of the sensitivity of the work of diverting the existing live JBA mains, a series of meetings were held with JBA Selangor to discuss in detail the diversion operation taking into account timing of shut down and need to build up sufficient storage at the various service reservoirs affected by the shut down. The logistic and public announcement were properly planned before commencement of the work.

The twin temporary diversion pipelines were first completed and awaiting for connection to existing 600 mm, 1000 mm and 1150 mm mains.

All connecting pieces complete with valves and bends/tees were pre-assembled and ready for installation once the pipelines were cut. A total of 8 nos. 1200 mm dia. BV were used to make the system workable. Connection works approval was obtained from JBA HQ to carry out the work at night on 24th April 1997.

One gang each was mobilized to both ends of the pipes and executed the cutting and connection works simultaneously. The whole operation took 9 hours, well within the limit of 12 hours as approved by JBA Selangor. The operation started at 9.00 p.m. and the water supply was back in service by 6.00 a.m. the next morning.

The existing 1000 mm and 1150 mm dia. mains were progressively salvaged and the new 600 mm, 1000 mm and 1150 mm dia. mains were laid to the new platform level after the completion of the earth works.

The new permanent pipelines were finally tested, flushed, sterilized and commissioned to the satisfaction of JBA Selangor. Another mission accomplished by Asia Baru Construction Sdn. Bhd. to the satisfaction of the Client and JBA Selangor with minimum inconvenience to the consumers.
