PROJECTS > RAW WATER SUPPLY PROJECT TO RAPID (PAMER)

Project Background
The Pengerang Integrated Petroleum Complex (PIPC) is an initiative by the Johor State Government to develop an oil and gas hub in Pengerang. PIPC will house PETRONAS’s Refinery and Petrochemical Integrated Development (RAPID) project and a host of other oil and gas industries, enterprises and support facilities.

The raw water supply project to PIPC will be undertaken in two (2) phases where Phase 1 will deliver 260 Mld of raw water, while Phase 2 will double up the total raw water supply to 520 Mld.

Johor State Government has granted PRPC Water Sdn Bhd, a wholly owned subsidiary of Petronas the rights to develop Phase 1 of the raw water supply project to PIPC (up to the boundary of RAPID). This Phase 1 development is known as the Raw Water Supply Project to RAPID or “Projek Air Mentah RAPID” or “PAMER”, and will deliver 230 Mld of the raw water to RAPID and another 30 Mld to the Johore State Government’s water treatment plant at Sg. Lebam.

The raw water will be abstracted from Sg. Sedili Besar and pumped through a raw water pumping main to an off-river storage by impounding a storage reservoir at Sg. Seluyut. From the Seluyut impounding reservoir, the raw water is delivered by gravity via the draw-off tower to a Booster Pumping Station downstream of the impounding reservoir. From the Booster Pumping Station, the raw water is pumped to the Terminal Reservoir at Bukit Panjang some 56 km away. 230 Mld of the raw water will be supplied to the Terminal Reservoir and 30 Mld will be supplied to the water treatment plant at Sg. Lebam. From the Terminal Reservoir at Bukit Panjang, raw water will be fed to a water treatment plant at RAPID by gravity pipelines.

Project Methodology
The works consists of the following major components:

a) Intake works at Sg. Sedili Besar
- The intake works comprises intake and raw water pumping station, flood detention pond, switch station and transformer yard. Civil and structural works is designed for 520 Mld with mechanical and electrical works to cater for Phase 1 water demand of 260 Mld.

b) Approximately 19 km of DN 1800 mm raw water pumping main from Intake at Sg. Sedili Besar to Sg. Seluyut impounding reservoir.

c) Impounding reservoir at Sg. Seluyut
- The Seluyut dam, located at Sg. Seluyut, comprises a main dam, a saddle dam, approximately 1,007 ha of impounding area, administration building, compressor house, boat house, switch station and store

d) Booster pumping station and ancillary works downstream of Seluyut dam comprise a pump station, a generator station, a switch station and a transformer yard. Civil and structural works is designed for 520 Mld with mechanical and electrical works to cater for Phase 1 water demand of 260 Mld.

e) Approximately 56 km of twin DN 1300 mm raw water pumping mains from booster pumping station downstream of Seluyut dam to Bukit Panjang terminal reservoir.

f) 130 Mld capacity reinforced concrete terminal reservoir at Bukit Panjang

g) Approximately 12 km of twin DN 1300 mm raw water gravity mains from Bukit Panjang terminal reservoir to the boundary of RAPID site.

h) A section of pipeline between the booster pumping station and terminal reservoir will be isolated and connected to an existing SAJ pipeline at Felda Sening Pump House to deliver treated water to RAPID for construction usage by 31 May 2015, until the commissioning of PAMER and water treatment plant at RAPID.
