Planning for water supply to Cyberjaya, Putrajaya and KLIA had been made on the basis that the initial and future ultimate demands will be served by the nearest major source works i.e. Sungai Semenyih Treatment Plant, via the balancing reservoir located within the said treatment plant. Owing to the need to ensure that the water supply to these prime development areas was maintained without disruption under any foreseeable circumstances, an alternative water supply system from different source was required. Towards this end, Sungai Selangor Water Supply Scheme, being the largest scheme serving the Klang Valley was studied and found to be able to supply water to these developments as an alternative source. The study also revealed that standby power generating plant shall be provided to the existing Sungai Semenyih Treatment Plant to enable continuous plant operation and production in the event of power failure.

The scope of works of the project comprised of the following:

  1. Construction of a Generator Building to house one (1) no. 2.5 MW Diesel Driven Generator Set at the existing Sg. Semenyih Raw Water Intake site.
  2. Construction of a Generator Building to house two (2) nos. 3.0 MW Diesel Driven Generator Set at the existing Sg. Semenyih Treatment Plant.
  3. Construction of a 11.4ML capacity Clear Water Tank at the existing Sg. Semenyih Treatment Plant.
  4. Laying of a 1000mm Diameter mild steel pipeline connecting the existing 1800mm diameter pipeline to the new Clear Water Tank complete with isolating valve and flowmeter.
  5. Other ancillary and associated works at the existing Sg. Semenyih Raw Water Intake and Treatment Plant sites.
